Lifelong Houstonians Ben and Tammy Ayers Register For Cleft Smiles 5K!
Ben and Tammy Ayers are lifelong Houstonians. They were born in the Bayou City, they went to college at the University of Houston, and now they’re raising a family here as well.
That family now includes their two children Landon (2) and Kendall (9 months old), and it is daughter Kendall that connects them to the Cleft Smiles 5K.
Kendall was burn with an incomplete cleft palate, and will have surgery in December to repair it.
“Kendall has had a very hard year,” Tammy says, “but she is so resilient and such a happy girl. She’s a great example of a ‘clefstrong kid!'”
Ben, who works for Occidental Petroleum, is an avid runner and has also raced the Houston Marathon. Tammy says that she is an “awesome cheerleader” for those who run, but on March 7th, 2015, she’ll trade in her pom-poms for some sneakers and hit the paths at Rob Fleming Park for 3.1 miles of fun.
Tammy is actively involved in the cleft community in Houston, and is also participating in hosting the Cleft Smiles 5K along with race director Leah Yeglin.
