Share Your Smile: “Team Sims” Joins Cleft Smiles 5k
“We are so excited to be a part of Cleft Smiles 5k!” says Emma Sims, who has signed up her family and friends to run the 5k on March 7 at Rob Fleming Park in The Woodlands.
Both parents are physicians, though Emma recently retired to stay home with her four children, Jordan Alexandra, 16, Luke 14, Nicholas, 10 and Jillian (Jilli) 8. Jillian was born with a cleft lip and palate, which were repaired when she was a baby. Now, Jillian is a strong and healthy eight-year-old, and the youngest member of a competitive dance company at Texas Academy of Dance Arts. Other “cleft connections” include a dance friend of Jillian’s and a cousin born with bilateral cleft and palate, who received one of the first repairs in England more than a half-century ago.
The Sims family is no stranger to 5ks. Emma has completed the 10 For Texas race as well as the Avon 39, while the kids stay active with soccer and dance practice. When Emma isn’t busy running or running after her kids, she volunteers with Women Empowering Women and The Interfaith Community Clinic in The Woodlands.
