The Cleft Smiles 5k was started as a grassroots effort in 2014 by a group of families and friends of children who were born with cleft lips and palates. The Cleft Smiles 5k was started from a desire to:
- Raise awareness for cleft-related birth defects
- Bring together children and families who have been affected by cleft-related conditions
- Raise money to provide surgery to children born with cleft lip or palate, who do not have access to medical care
Each year, hundreds of runners and walkers travel from all over the United States to run a 5k in The Woodlands, TX. Additionally, participants who are unable to join us in person have participated virtually from around the world!
To date, the Cleft Smiles 5k has raised $88,000, providing surgery to over 360 children.
